When we get pregnant, our bodies and hormones changes completely, as our life, which starts to be a preparation to welcome our child to the world. Besides all the emotional preparation, it's time to think in a practical way, preparing the baby's nursery. It's time to think kindly and carefully about the place for the little heir. In the post today we 'll talk about it, considering the advices of an expert Brazilian Architect Mariana Savi partner of Trinonio Arquitetura in Curitiba.
Mariana are you specialised in any specific field?
I attended an Architecture and Urbanism courses at PUC PR and furniture design at CEFET.
Our conversation is about babies bedrooms. So is there any trend for the bedrooms as for clothes? The most recent trend is to use strong colours focusing on some object, as a furniture or an accessory. The phase of having themed bedrooms has ended. Parents want something more practical/convenient, a bedroom that can be used for the baby and that later the cot can be replaced by a bed or a desk.
Does trends change over time? How does this work? Are there trends and themes that start and go out of fashion too?
There are always the kids favourite cartoons and when they start having their own opinions they soon want to express them in some object or decoration for their bedroom, but in the babies' bedrooms, which are still chosen by the parents, this idea of themes has disappeared a little bit. Today parents want something clean, convenient/practical, which can be changed over the years and according to the age of the baby.
If a mother wants to make a bedroom for her baby for example, what are the first steps?
The first step is to consider the necessary furnishings (cot, bed, changing table, breastfeeding char, etc...) and their size, so then you can think about layout solutions and look at each option/possibility with its positive and negative points.
What needs to be considered? Colours, lights, space?
I think that in a project, not only in the baby's or kid's room, we always have to consider functionality and circulation. An environment/a room will not be well-designed if there is no enough space to make use of everything that the project proposes.
For you Mariana, where does inspiration come from?
Inspiration comes from a lot of research, from experience and projects that we study on a daily basis in our office, from the exchange of experiences with other partners/associates and even with the clients.
After you became a mother, has your inspiration somehow changed?
Ah, I think so. Before, I didn't know how a baby's routine is like, we used to learn with the mothers when it came to the projecting. Today I know how important it is to have everything at your fingertips when you have to change a nappy for example.
If people cannot contract an Architect or an expert, are there publications where they can get ideas from? If so, which ones?
There are many good publications today in the architecture field. Magazines with more and more information and ideas. There is no specific one. The internet is also a great friend at that time.
