Why My Tutu Skirt ?

Today our subject is the name of the Blog. What made me choose it?

So, looking around in the shop where I work , thinking about the challenge of writing a blog. The question came up  to my mind. How am I going to name it ? After scrutinising all the rails, analysing all the styles and colours of the new season clothes, I finally laid my eyes on a fluo tutu skirt hanging on the wall. That's it, I tought. "My Tutu Skirt" came to life!

Historically speaking, it's said that the Russians, the connoisseurs of ballet, started to use tutus at the end of the 19th Century, replacing the long dresses worn before. The intention was to give more mobility to the dancers and to see and appreciate better the movements of their legs and the footwork.

In different styles and lengths the tutu is normally composed from 6 to 15 layers of fabric, usually the light ones like tulle, nylon, tarlatan, voile, organdy  and organza.

It can be a three quarter length bell shaped skirt called Romantic Tutu, as seen in Giselle. Or the Classical Tutu one (pancake) with a very short skirt that extends straight forwards for the hips with wired hoops, in a flat pancake shape, as used in Swan Lake. The other classic version is the Tutu Bell, a short stiff skirt with a slight bell shape as it is shown in the famous ballet painting from Degas.

There's also the  Balanchine or Karinska Tutu, also  known as "powder puff". Quite fuller short skirt with no hoops originally designed for the ballet version of George Bizet's Symphony in C . In her's  favourite ones In the fashion world, tutu skirts are very present, specially for the little ones. In many brands in all seasons we can find very nice tutus. They are cute, feminine and relates of course to the Romanticism of Ballet, the dream of many girls and their mums. Worn with a classic style ballerina shoes and a glittery cardigan its a nice outfit for special occasions and in trendy way, we can try it with biker boots and jacket choosing a rebel romantic look. Porque My Tutu Skirt ?

O nosso assunto de hoje e o nome do Blog. Como eu o escolhi?


Entao. Olhando em volta da loja onde eu trabalho, pensando sobre o desafio de escrever um Blog, me veio a seguinte questao: Qual sera o nome do Blog? Depois de examinar todos os cabides, analizar todos os estilos e cores da nova colecao, eu finalmente avistei um tutu fluorescente pendurado na parede. Esta ai, pensei.  "My tutu skirt" ganhou vida!

Historicamente falando, e dito que os Russos, os  eximios conhecedores do Ballet, comecaram a usar tutus no final do seculo 19, substituindo os vestidos longos usados anteriormente. A intencao era dar mais mobilidade as dancarinas , ver e apreciar melhor os movimentos das pernas e o trabalho dos pes.

Em diferente estilos e comprimentos o tutu e normalmente composto de 6 a 15 camadas de tecidos, geralmente os mais finos como nylon, tule, tarlatana, voal,organdi e organza.

 Pode ser tres quartos de comprimento, com a saia em formato de sino o chamado  Tutu Romantico, como visto no Ballet  Giselle.  O tipo classico e o Tutu panqueca, uma saia bem curta, rigida com um bambole de arame  em volta , como usado no Lago dos Cisnes.  Outro classico e o tutu sino a saia e curta e firme mas sem o bambole de arame em volta como vista na pintura  fanosa pintura de Degas.

Outro estilo conhecido como Balachine ou Karinska, e similar aos tutus sino e panqueca, exceto que nao sao utilizados arames e sao constituidos  com menos camadas de pano. A saia e levemente pregada para dar uma aparencia mais suave. Este estilo foi criado originalmente para a versao do Ballet Sinfonia em C de George Bizet.

The Global Kids Fashion Week

To begin well this adventure which is to make My Tutu Skirt go on, we're going to talk about a very  nice event. The Global Kids Fashion Week 2013 was the first event designed  to present children's  fashion brands, a booming industry which deserves a good attention. In two days we could see what is trendy from the Spring/ Summer 2013 and also to have an idea what is coming from the next Autumn/Winter. And more important than anything  to be involved with a fantastic charitable cause, raising funds  for - Kids Company- which helps about 36.000 across London.

I was there and could see how bright will be the next season in Europe, even if the Spring is a bit late this time and the cold weather insists in staying, the kids are ready to welcome the flowers and the sunshine.

Global Kids Fashion Week

E para comecar muito bem esta aventura que vai ser fazer My Tutu Skirt fluir, a primeira "conversa" vai ser sobre um evento muito legal. O Global Kids Fashion Week 2013, foi o primeiro evento do genero para moda infantil, uma industria que esta crescendo muito e que merece atencao.
 Foram 2 dias de desfiles com renomadas marcas apresentando as colecoes Primavera/ Verao 2013 e dando uma ideia do que vai ser trendy tambem no proximo Outono/Inverno.
Alem de estar envolvida numa grande causa, arrecadar fundos para a organizacao nao governamental - Kids Company- que da suporte a 36 mil criancas em Londres.

Eu estive la dando uma olhadinha no que aconteceu. Ja deu para perceber que a moda primavera/verao vai ser bright aqui pela Europa. Apesar da estacao mais esperada do ano estar um pouco atrasada para aparecer e as tempertaturas estarem muito abaixo do que o esperado, os  pequenos ja estao prontos para dar as boas vindas as flores e ao Sol.

Nasceu !!!!

Meu Blog  My Tutu Skirt nasceu para muda minha vida! Parece dramatico mas e muito verdadeiro.
Tanto tempo sem escrever praticamente nada, este Blog me traz de volta ao "mundo da escrita".
Aqui eu colocarei minhas impressoes sobre varias assuntos, mas principalmente sobre moda infantil.
Uma maneira de misturar e combinar minhas experiencias como jornalista e de varios anos trabalhando numa marca linda, luxuosa e super fashion feita especialmente para os pequenos.

It's Born !!!!

My Tutu Skirt is born to change my life! Seems a bit dramatic, but is so true!
After such  a long time without writing barely anything; this Blog takes me back to the "writing world" . Here I'll put my impressions about many things, specially about children's fashion.
The way to mix and match my experience as a Journalist and  from my long years working in a beautiful, luxury and fashionable brand made specially for the little ones.
